Lavrinenko: We need reinforcement. In the first season, we must enter the top 10

The coach expects serious competition in the new season

Newly minted mentor Veresa Sergey Lavrinenko announced goals for the 2023/24 season. The coach also acknowledged that he could not avoid comparison with the former coach of the Rivne club Yuri Wirth.

“The task now is to keep the high bar set by Yuriy Wirth and his coaching staff. I understand the fans. It will be twice as difficult for me because people will constantly compare me and the previous coach. I need to work even better. I hope everything works out.”

“We need reinforcement. There is an agreement with the players. But the decision will be for the leadership of the club. The path between invitation and signing is long. But if we can sign the players we want, we will definitely become stronger.”

“Of course, I want to see the team’s attacking style of play. But everything will depend on the composition of the team. We need to strengthen the defense. Because the team missed a lot after simple mistakes.

“The first season – we should be in the top ten. And we know that many teams set very ambitious goals for the season. The competition will be even higher.”

As the head coach of Veres, Lavrinenko replaced Yuriy Virt, who resigned after defeating Metallurg 3 in the UPL playoffs. Ex-coach Ingulets signed a three-year contract with Veres.

Lavrinenko has been out of work since November 2022, when he was fired from his post as head coach of Ingulets. Previously, he also headed the Kropyvnytskyi Zirka.

Veres retained his place in the Premier League, beating Zaporozhye Metallurg (0:1, 6:1) in the play-offs.
