CSKA veteran Vladimir Ponomarev says the army team will aim for the world championship next RPL season.
Last season, CSKA took second place in the WORLD RPL rankings and also won the Russian Cup.
“I think the goals have already been set. We are focused on first place, on the championship. We need to bypass the “Zenith” of St. Petersburg. We will have a good competition. CSKA now have a more balanced line-up than Zenit. Saint Petersburg has a good attack, but we have better other lines. So we are aiming for first place, the team is capable of it.
Of course, refereeing will be an important factor. Last season was a mess. It was terrible officiating. I hope everything will be settled now and the situation will change,” Ponomarev told Euro‑Football.Ru.
The OLIMPBET Russian Super Cup match between Zenit St. Petersburg and CSKA Moscow will take place on July 15 in Kazan.
The new season of the Russian Championship will start from July 21 to 23.
