Guardiola: De Bruyne has the same injury as after the Champions League final

The Belgian is at risk of missing several weeks

Head coach Manchester City Pep Guardiola confirmed the recurrence of an old injury in midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

“Unfortunately, he is injured again. Kevin said the problem is in the same place as in the Champions League final. It’s a pity, because he recovered well, but now we have lost him for a while. We need to think, talk to the doctors, see what happened.”

“He needs to relax, recover and come back. He felt good and played well in the first minutes. It depends on the severity of the injury, but will be in a few weeks. Maybe it was my mistake to put him on the field, but when he is injured after 15-20 minutes, it is not something wrong – muscle fatigue is felt after 65 minutes.

De Bruyne started for the City on Matchday 1 of the Premier League against Burnley. The Belgian played 23 minutes before being replaced by Mateo Kovacic.

Earlier, the midfielder suffered a hamstring injury in the Champions League final against Inter (1:0). Kevin was expected to risk missing the start of the season due to injury.

Guardiola’s team defeated Burnley away (3:0). City’s next match at home is Newcastle on 19 August.
