Mikolenko: It’s very difficult when there are two games with the finalists of the last European Championship

Ukrainian football players are preparing for the confrontation with Italy

Defender Ukrainian national team Vitaly Mykolenko shared his expectations from the match with Italy in the 6th round of the qualifying stage European Championship 2024.

“It’s very difficult when there are two games with the finalists of the last European Championship. But talking about a wounded animal is probably not the case in this situation. Both we and they are preparing in such a way that we need to go out and take three points. It will be very interesting,” said Mikolenko.

“The Italians have always been famous for their disciplined play. Sometimes it’s harder to play against a team that plays like that than against a team that has a lot of players with good individual performances. This is a completely different team, not like England. But also a very difficult opponent.”

“We probably all played in the Champions League and for the national team in big stadiums. It’s not scary, and it’s probably more pleasant here. I haven’t played at San Siro yet, and neither have many of the national team players. It’s nice to play at such a stadium and be in such an atmosphere. And if we win, it will be simply unforgettable.”

The Italy-Ukraine match will take place in Milan at the San Siro stadium on September 12. The meeting starts at 21:45. The fight will be judged by the Spanish team of judges led by Alejandro Hernandez.

Ukraine is second in Group C with seven points. Sergei Rebrov’s team is three points ahead of Italy, having played one match more.
