The head coach of the Ukrainian national football team commented on the result of the qualifying match for Euro 2024.
It was difficult for the Ukrainian national team in the match with Italy, because the players did not have time to fully recover after the match with England. This is what the head coach of the “blue-yellows” Sergei Rebrov thinks.
The coach also said that the Italians were helped a lot by the quick goal they scored after a mistake by Georgy Sudakov.
“The Italians were not surprised, they tried to play very hard from the first minute. An early goal helped them. Yes, they created chances, but I thank the guys who came back into the game.
We scored a goal and had several chances in the second half to level the score. I would like to thank the boys again, because it was very difficult to play after a difficult match in England. Italy played very hard, and sometimes we couldn’t catch the rhythm.
The players just rested after a tough first half. At the beginning of the second we created some chances and tried to play the ball. We pointed out some mistakes and made some comments. But I believe it is more the psychology of the players themselves.
One goal is not enough. It was very difficult to play after two days. We tried to put more pressure on the opponent, but I saw from the boys that it was very difficult for them – they gave a lot of effort in the game with England. I want to remind you again who we are playing with. I don’t understand why everyone is saying that the Italian national team is now in crisis.
We found ourselves in a very difficult group. Two games – with England and Italy – are key. If you look at the standings, we have a chance. We will seriously prepare for the next two games. I’m sure we have a chance.
Like the game against England, there was a good atmosphere. Today there are fewer Ukrainians, but I saw how the Italians supported Ukraine. We are very grateful for this. But such an environment plays into the hands of the home team – San Siro has helped the Italian team a lot. We are grateful that we are playing here, that Italy has welcomed us well,” the official UAF website quoted Rebrov as saying.
