Napoli: Never intended to insult or ridicule Osimhen, who is an asset to the club

The forward was ready to sue his club over a TikTok video

Napoli published a statement on the club’s official website regarding the situation around the striker Victor Osimhen. The forward was ready to sue after publishing a video on the club’s TikTok in which he ridiculed the player’s behavior.

“Napoli wishes to make it clear that the club never intended to insult or ridicule Victor Osimhen, who is an asset to the club. Napoli have rejected all offers for the striker over the summer, providing strong evidence that the club values him.

Social media, and TikTok in particular, uses expressive language in a light-hearted and playful way. In this case with Victor there was no intention to offend or ridicule. If Victor was offended by anything, this was not at all the intention of the club,” Napoli said in a statement.

In the Serie A match with Bologna (0:0), Osimhen missed a penalty. After the game, Napoli’s official TikTok account published a video in which they ridiculed Osimhen’s behavior: in the video, the player allegedly first “begs” for a penalty, and then does not score it.

The video has now been removed from the club’s social networks, but this act did not go unnoticed by the player. Osimhen considers himself offended and is ready to go to court due to violations of honor, dignity and moral attitude. The striker also deleted all photos from his personal social networks wearing a Napoli T-shirt.

In the home match with Udinese on September 27, Napoli won a big victory 4:1. Osimhen came into the starting line-up, but when the hosts earned the right to a penalty, it was not he who stepped up to the mark, but Piotr Zielinski. However, the Nigerian did not leave the field without a goal – at the end of the half he made the score 2:0, after which he celebrated the goal with his teammates.

This season, 24-year-old Osimhen has 4 goals and 1 assist in 7 matches for the Neapolitan club.

Napoli are in fifth place in Serie A with 11 points. In the next match, Rudi Garcia’s team will play away against Lecce on September 30.
