Benfica minimally won on home field Porto in the central match of the 7th round Primeira Liga – 1:0.
In the 19th minute, the Dragons remained in the minority – defender Fabio Cardoso received a straight red card. The Eagles took advantage of their numerical advantage after the break – Angel Di Maria put Benfica ahead. The Argentine was assisted by former Shakhtar player David Neres. The teams did not score any more goals.
Ukrainian goalkeeper for Benfica Anatoly Trubin spent the entire match on the field and made three saves. This was the goalkeeper’s fourth match in a row for the Lisbon team.
Benfica gained 18 points and moved up to first place in the Primeira Liga. Porto dropped to third position with 16 points.
Next week the teams will play in the Champions League. On October 3, Benfica will meet Inter on the road, and Porto will host Barcelona on October 4.
