Athletistic/Football. Former Russian national team goalkeeper Alexander Filimonov believes that CSKA’s Igor Akinfeev is not rightly considered one of the best goalkeepers in European and world football. According to him, the Russian has no overall merit.
“I don’t think Igor has any overall merits, because in addition to the championship and the Russian Cup, he only won the UEFA Cup. There are people who won the Champions League, there has winners of the World and European Championships and even the Olympics. So I wouldn’t say that Igor is somehow oppressed and unfairly belittled. For our championship and even more for our fans, Igor is an iconic football player and athlete. But at the European level, unfortunately, it does “We do not occupy the same high position as in our heads, our thoughts and our image of football vision,” Sport24 quotes Filimonov.
Akinfeev has played for CSKA since 2003.
