This decision was made for family reasons.
First Vice-President of the UAF Anatoly Demyanenko announced his resignation as acting head Ukrainian Football Veterans Association.
Demyanenko announced his decision after holding a mini-football tournament in memory of the defender of the Donetsk airport, a soldier of the 95th separate air assault brigade Ruslan Borovik.
“In September of the year before last, in a difficult situation, I was asked to head this organization with acting status. I agreed and did everything I could to be helpful. So far, circumstances have developed in such a way that I decided to resign from the position of head of the AVFU. I made this decision for personal reasons. Now I continue to work at the UAF and remain in football, because football is my life.”
As a Dynamo football player, Anatoly Demyanenko became the USSR champion five times, won the USSR Cup four times, and also won the Cup Winners’ Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. In 1988, together with the USSR national team, Demyanenko reached the final of the European Championship, where the Soviet team lost to the Netherlands (0:2).
Demyanenko was also the head coach of Dynamo between 2005 and 2007. Under his leadership, the white-blues won the championship and the Ukrainian Cup twice. He also led Neftchi, Nasaf, Volyn and the Slovak Nitra.
Let us recall that at least 16 regional football associations of Ukraine supported the demand for the resignation of Anatoly Demyanenko from the post of first vice-president of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) in connection with a gross violation of the organization’s Charter.
The reason for such drastic decisions was a letter from the UAF signed by Demyanenko, which noted that regional members of the association are prohibited from holding elections to governing bodies during martial law.
Regional associations of Ukraine call for an urgent convening of a meeting of the UAF Executive Committee, the appointment of an interim Secretary General of the Association, and an independent audit.
