The Badminton World Federation has suspended Russia’s membership in its organization

The reason is a violation of the terms of membership, namely the inclusion of Ukrainian territories in its jurisdiction

Badminton World Federation (BFW) has suspended the membership of the Russian National Badminton Federation (NBRF) after it was found to be violating the terms of membership.

The reason is the inclusion of Ukrainian territories – parts of Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions – into the “jurisdiction” of the NSFB.

Let us remind you that in the spring of 2022, BFW disqualified Russian and Belarusian athletes from international tournaments under its auspices, and in April 2023 extended this ban.

In August, the same organization allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in international competitions in a neutral status. As reported, “neutral” athletes will be allowed to participate in tournaments under the auspices of the BWF from February 26, 2024.

Previously, the IOC Executive Committee recommended returning Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. At the same time, teams from Russia and Belarus are not allowed to participate in tournaments, as well as athletes who support the war or have a contract with the armies of the Russian Federation or Belarus.

In the early hours of February 24, 2022, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has continued for the 645th day.
