After controversy, Palmeiras announces new reinforcement

After great controversy, Palmeiras announced this Friday, 5th, the hiring of its third reinforcement for the new season; see details

O Palm trees announced this Friday morning, the 5th, the signing of the left-back Caio Paulistawho stood out last season for São Paulo. Borrowed by Fluminense to the São Paulo Tricolor, the player had a plan to stay, but ended up deciding to go to the other CT in Barra Funda.

The 25-year-old player had the best year of his career in 2023, being an absolute starter at left-back at São Paulo and playing a fundamental role in the Copa do Brasil title. At Palmeiras, he signed a contract valid for the next five years and will cost around 3.8 million euros (R$18.3 million) to the club’s coffers.

The ‘hat’ was created after a disagreement between the three parties previously involved in the deal, which opened the door for Verdão to enter the game. It is also worth remembering that São Paulo had priority in purchasing the player until December 15th, which did not happen.

The better offer for Fluminense, at around 1.5 million euros, and also for the player himself made the difference in changing his mind towards the 2024 season. At the celebration of the Copa do Brasil title, both the manager Tricolor, Carlos Belmonteas well as the player, confirmed their permanence at the club for this year, which did not happen.

On Palmeiras’ side, the arrival is to fill the possible departure of the reserve position, Vanderlan. The 21-year-old has inquiries from European clubs, such as Milan, and could leave in this transfer window. Despite this, the idea is to continue with the three options, especially because Caio is a native winger, and can still work in the sector.
