Amanda Serrano did not defend her championship titles due to an eye injury

Puerto Rican woman failed to pass medical examination before fight with Nina Meinke

Absolute world featherweight champion Amanda Serrano did not defend their titles against Nina Meinke due to eye injury.

The fight was supposed to be the main event of the boxing evening in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The announcement of the cancellation of the fight took place immediately after Jake Paul’s victory at this event.

“I know people are booing, but Amanda came to fight. Doctors did not allow her to fight because of her eye. Her cornea was exposed and she didn’t pass the eye test, but she did everything she could to make it happen. We stand next to Amanda, she wanted more than anything to represent her island that night,” Jake Paul said in the ring.

In October, Serrano defended her WBA, IBF and WBO featherweight titles against Brazilian Ramos. The unprecedented fight consisted of 12 rounds of three minutes each. Previously, women’s championship bouts were limited to ten two-minute rounds.

In early December, Amanda vacated her WBC title because the sanctioning body did not support women’s 12×3 bouts.

35-year-old Serrano is a record holder in professional boxing, she is the only woman to become a champion in seven weight categories.
