“Spartak will have to make a very difficult decision regarding Promes” – Byshovets

Former head coach of the Russian national team Anatoly Byshovets it was a “headache” for Moscow “Spartacus” situation with the Dutch striker Quincy Promes .

Promes is still in the UAE, where Spartak held winter training camps ahead of the resumption of the MIR RPL season. According to media reports, the footballer was arrested by police at Dubai airport and is now under house arrest. It was reported that Promes left the scene of the accident, which was the reason for his arrest. On Tuesday, journalist Ivan Karpov reported that the trial in the Promes case had been postponed for a week.

“I want to call Quincy Promes an unprintable word.” But I prefer the name “slob”. I guess he was very influenced by the lifestyle. He spent his childhood on the streets and was left to his own devices. It was there that he became acquainted with hip-hop and the gang lifestyle. Therefore, everything that was deposited in childhood still haunts him today. Resolving a conflict with his cousin, participating in drug deals, going to nightclubs – this has already become the norm for him. And a solid football career couldn’t change Quincy’s character.

We must always separate human qualities from professional qualities. A person can be a brilliant athlete, but at the same time be hostage to bad habits. Or lead an inappropriate life. This was the case for my national team partner Valery Voronin. We were very worried about him when he miraculously survived an accident in 1968. Unfortunately, this is all personal. As in the case of Promes. So it’s a huge headache for Spartak when one of the main players leads such a lifestyle. They have to make a very difficult decision regarding his future,” RT Byshovets quotes.

Last June, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes to 18 months in prison for assaulting his cousin; in February, the footballer was convicted of drug trafficking and the court sentenced him to six years in prison. On February 27, the press service of the Amsterdam public prosecutor’s office told that Promes’ lawyer had appealed.
