Former Brazilian national footballer Daniel Alves released from a Spanish prison after 14 months of detention, reports El Chiringuito television.
On his way out, Alves was greeted by numerous journalists and demonstrators against his release.
Earlier on Monday, it was reported that Alves had posted €1 million bail to get out of jail while his rape appeal was pending. It took him several days to raise the required amount. It has been reported that Alves will have to surrender both his passports – Spanish and Brazilian.
Alves was convicted of sexual assault committed at a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022. He was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison, while prosecutors asked for nine years and the victim’s lawyer requested a maximum sentence of 12 years.
Alves, being part of Barcelona, became six times champion of Spain, four times winner of the Spanish Cup and Super Cup and three times winner of the Champions League.
