Blancos are working on extending the contract with the Ukrainian
Head coach Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti commented on the performance of the Ukrainian goalkeeper Andrey Lunin.
“Lunin improved significantly because he had the opportunity to show his quality game. His performance was very, very good. He is a goalkeeper who has quality.”
Ancelotti hopes that the Ukrainian goalkeeper will extend his contract with Blancos. The head coach told Real Madrid management that the Ukrainian “has huge potential”.
It was previously reported that the Madrid team had already prepared a new offer for Andrey. Real intends to speed up the negotiation process on extending the contract with the Ukrainian against the backdrop of Thibaut Courtois’ re-departure for a long period.
Lunin’s new contract will increase his salary and stipulate a guaranteed number of games that the Ukrainian will play per season. At the same time, Lunin will be the reserve goalkeeper, while the “first number” should remain with Courtois.
The Ukrainian’s current agreement runs until the end of the 2024/25 season. If the contract cannot be extended, they will try to sell Lunin in the summer transfer window to exclude the option of leaving for free. A number of clubs are interested in the Ukrainian, including Manchester United.
Real Madrid leads La Liga with 72 points. The Blancos will play their next match on March 31 against Athletic.
