Shakhtar’s midfielder talks about the match against Obolon and the injury that caused him to miss the test match of the Ukrainian Olympic team
Shakhtar midfielder Artem Bondarenko became one of the main characters in the Miners’ victorious match with Obolon within the 22nd round of the UPL. After the game, the midfielder assessed the performance of both teams, and also spoke about the damage due to which missed the test match of the Ukrainian Olympic team.
— Did you start the match with Obolon as a holding midfielder?
– I guess, yes. When we don’t have Taras Stepanenko in our lineup, I go down lower to help Kryskiv.
— There were a lot of fights in the match, fouls, yellow and red cards were shown to the players quite often…
– Yes, but we were ready for such a game. We knew how Obolon fights on the football field, especially when it comes to this team’s home matches. It’s great that our attitude allowed us to win.
— Personally, have you seen many Obolon games in the current championship?
— I watched several matches – with Dnepr-1 and Polesie. In general, our coaching staff shows us important moments of the opponent’s game over several matches. So we were aware of everything – how they scored, how they conceded.
— Marjan Shved’s performance pleasantly surprised everyone. He hasn’t scored for a long time…
— All the guys gave him the necessary instructions for this fight (laughs). In general, we all know his class. Marjan Shved is an incredible football player. In the locker room the whole team congratulated him. Of course, it was not easy for him to return to a high level after injury. But today he played well, scored two goals and made an assist. Everyone is happy for him.
— Is Shakhtar’s victory logical?
– There are no questions at all.
— Artem, you did not fly to Japan as part of the Ukrainian Olympic team due to injury. How is the situation now?
– That’s better. Although I haven’t completely healed the injury yet, the pause in the championship did me good; I managed to heal a little.
