Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov told that foreign referees will start working in Russian competitions, probably from the start of next season.
In October last year, it was announced that the RFU had signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of refereeing with the Saudi Football Federation and the Belarusian Football Federation. Russian referees have been appointed for Saudi League matches.
— Are there plans for our referees to work abroad?
— There are projects, our judges are working. We have another problem: we would like foreign judges to work here. But here another problem arises: there are limitations in our order of the Ministry of Sports on the rules of judging. Only judges belonging to the All-Russian category can officiate at competitions.
— How long will it take to resolve this problem?
“In my opinion, this is simply a bureaucratic procedure of the Ministry of Sports, linked to the current issue of government formation. They just don’t have time for that now. I hope they find a solution quickly. Foreign referees can officiate at international competitions and matches of the Russian national team. This is unlikely to happen this season. We are focused on the start of the next season,” Mitrofanov told .
