Mentor Rukh – about two different halves in the home match against Veres
Head coach Rukha Vitaly Ponomarev commented on his team’s strong-willed victory over Veres (3:1) in the home match of the 26th round Ukrainian Premier League.
“We failed the first half. That’s my fault. Denis Pidgursky was injured; they were not sure whether he would be able to enter the game. That’s why we changed the lineup a bit before this game. Two tens were playing, we started losing rebounds. Therefore, not everything worked out. But after the break everything fell into place. We made adjustments, and it gave results. Denis Pidgursky came out and we started playing our own football.”
“Of course, we had an emotional conversation with the team at half-time. Because the first half was probably the worst in home matches. We lost a lot of fights. There was no aggression or enthusiasm. We had to talk and change something.”
“Yaroslav Karabin played very well today. He missed a month due to appendicitis. But this did not affect his form in any way. All the guys played very well in the second half.”
Let us remind you that Veres unexpectedly won the first half away from Rukh. The goal was chalked up to hosts’ defender Bohdan Slyubik, who unsuccessfully put his head under Nikolai Haiduchik’s shot.
In the second half, the Lviv team changed. First, Slyubik redeemed himself by scoring into the opponent’s goal after a set piece. And by the middle of the half the score was 3:1, and Yaroslav Karabin contributed to both goals.
The victory allowed Rukh to come close in the standings to SK Dnepr-1, which is in fourth place. In the next round, Ponomarev’s team will go to visit Alexandria on May 4.
