Juventus appeals court verdict to pay 9.8 million euros in favor of Cristiano Ronaldo

Previously, the court sided with the Portuguese, who was underpaid by the Turin club in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic

Juventus is preparing to appeal against the arbitration court’s decision that the Turin club must pay its former player Cristiano Ronaldo an amount of 9.77 million euros.

It is not yet known how long the appeal may take due to some peculiarities of Italian civil proceedings. According to various estimates, this may take from one to six months.

Let us recall that earlier in April the court issued a verdict in favor of the Portuguese football player, who was suing his former club. Ronaldo won the case, but not completely: his claim included the amount of 19.5 million, which was formed as a result of two unpaid salaries at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the arbitration court ruled by a majority vote that responsibility should be divided equally between the player and the club, so Juventus is obliged to pay its ex-forward half of the amount that he demanded. In view of the above circumstances, the Italian football club considered that an appeal against the verdict would have good prospects.

Let us remember that Ronaldo played for Juventus for three seasons, from 2018 to 2021. As part of the Zebras, he played 134 matches, scored 101 goals, and gave 22 assists. The Portuguese won five trophies with Juve, including two Serie A victories.

In the current Italian championship, Juventus is in third place. 39-year-old Ronaldo has been a player for Saudi Al-Nasr for more than a year. This season, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 36 goals and provided 12 assists in 38 matches for his club.
