Angel could become Messi’s next ex-teammate in the MLS team
Inter Miami shows interest in winger Benfica and the Argentina national team Angel Di Maria.
If the 36-year-old footballer does not renew his contract with the Lisbon club, he could become a teammate of Lionel Messi and Sergei Krivtsov next summer, moving to Miami as a free agent at the end of the 2024 Copa America.
The star Argentinean, who in addition to Benfica managed to play for Rosario, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, could become Messi’s fourth ex-teammate in the new team after Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez. However, there is one difficulty: to move to Inter Miami, he will need an additional international slot.
Di Maria has been playing for the Eagles since last summer: 46 matches in all competitions, 16 goals and 15 assists. His contract with the Lisbon giants expires on June 30, but contains the option of extending it for another season. In early April, it was reported that Benfica began negotiations with Angel to extend the agreement.
Benfica is in second place in the Primeira Liga, five points behind Sporting with three rounds to go. Inter Miami leads the MLS Eastern Conference.
The 2024 America’s Cup will be held in the United States from June 20 to July 14.
