Friedman: We didn’t care where to sell Pikhalenok – to Dynamo or Shakhtar

Both clubs fought for the midfielder, but Alexander chose Dynamo

Commercial Director SK Dnepr-1 Vyacheslav Fridman spoke about the details of the transfer of midfielder Alexander Pikhalenok to Dynamo.

“Dynamo approached us with an offer. We met with Surkis and discussed everything. I explained to him that according to the terms of the contract that we concluded with Shakhtar when buying Alexander, we must inform the Donetsk club about this.”

“We did everything honestly, we reported. The miner thought about it and decided to make a return transfer to Pikhalenok. But, as I understand it, he was unable to reach an agreement with the player.”

“After that, Shakhtar sent us a letter that they were not against the transition. We just need to confirm the numbers are correct. [суммы трансфера]. We didn’t care where to sell Pikhalenok – to Dynamo or Shakhtar. He had a year left on his contract and needed to sell him.”

“Let Dynamo name the amount. Or Shakhtar. I don’t want to give any numbers.”

Let us remind you that Pikhalyonok signed a five-year contract with the Kyiv club. At the end of May, information appeared that SK Dnepr-1 received an offer to transfer Pikhalenok from Dynamo Kyiv. At the same time, it was reported that when Alexander transferred to the Dnipro club from Shakhtar, a clause was specified in the contract, according to which any proposal for the midfielder approved by the Dnipro team must be presented to the Donetsk club.

After reviewing Dynamo’s proposal, Shakhtar decided to repeat it. Presumably, we could be talking about the amount of 2.5-3 million dollars. According to available information, the Miners accepted the terms of Pikhalenok’s personal contract, the parties reached a preliminary agreement, but Alexander himself changed his mind at the last moment and refused to return to Shakhtar, where he is a student.

Last season, 27-year-old Pikhalenok played 31 matches for Dnepr-1 in all tournaments, in which he scored six goals and gave the same number of assists. In April-May, he missed several games due to injury and, as a result, was not even included in the reserve list of players for the Ukrainian national team to prepare for Euro 2024.

At the end of the 2023/24 season, Dynamo took second place in the Ukrainian championship standings and will take part in the Champions League qualifications.

Dnepr-1 took fourth place in the UPL. Yuri Maksimov’s team will compete in the Conference League qualifications in the 2024/25 season.
