The half against Poland was Vitaly’s first appearance on the field in a month and a half
Defender Ukrainian national team Vitaly Mykolenko commented on his return to the field after injury in the test match against Poland.
“After the injury, I felt good on the field, but there are still some problems that are not related to my injury. It was a little uncomfortable. I wasn’t 100% ready for this game.”
“We talked with the coaching staff that now according to the plan I should play for some time – 45 minutes was enough. This is very important for my physical preparation for the Euro,” concluded Vitaly.
Mikolenko played the first half of the Poland-Ukraine control match (3:1) on June 7. For the 25-year-old player, this was the first appearance on the field since the end of April. Let us remind you that the Everton defender missed the end of the season due to an injury he received at the end of April in a match with Liverpool (2:0). Mikolenko later said that he would not need surgery and planned to play at the 2024 European Championships.
Earlier, Sergei Rebrov’s team ended in a draw with Germany (0:0). The blue-yellows will hold the final sparring in Chisinau with Moldova. The fight is scheduled for June 11.
On June 12, the Ukrainian team will move to Wiesbaden, its base city during the continental championship. At the group stage of the 2024 European Championship, the blue-yellows will play against the national teams of Romania (June 17), Slovakia (June 21) and Belgium (June 26). The matches will take place in Munich, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, respectively.
Ukraine will play at the European Championships for the fourth time. The blue-and-yellows have consistently competed in the finals of the continental championship since 2012. Euro 2024 will take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024.
The UAF presented the team’s application for the European championship. It included all 26 players who are currently at Rebrov’s disposal. None of the players on the reserve list were transferred to the main squad.
