Three Valencia fans jailed for eight months for racially abusing Vinicius

The scandalous fight took place in May 2023 at Mestalla

Three fans Valencia sentenced to eight months in prison for racially abusing the winger Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior.

The Investigative Court No. 10 of Valencia sentenced three fans. The racist behavior of the fans was marked as an aggravating motive. In addition to prison, they are banned from attending football matches for two years.

All three admitted their responsibility, and published a letter of apology to Vinicius, the Madrid club and others who were offended by their actions. The defendants also called on other fans to eradicate all manifestations of intolerance and racism.

Let us remind you: the match Valencia – Real (1:0) on May 21, 2023 was remembered for the racist scandal against Vinicius. In the middle of the second half, there was a pause in the game for several minutes due to insults directed at the Brazilian. And in stoppage time, Vinicius received a red card for hitting an opponent in the face.

The footballer himself said that “La Liga previously belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano and Messi, but now it has been swallowed up by racism.” Vinicius also stressed that he will continue to fight racism in Spain.

In turn, La Liga began its own investigation and requested all materials from the game between Real and Valencia. In case of identified violations, the organization undertakes to take appropriate legal measures. A verdict is expected in November.

The Madrid club contacted the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding this situation. The Blancos also intend to ensure a clear and private trial of the case with a fair punishment for the perpetrator.

Valencia also began its own investigation: the club’s management condemned the manifestation of racism. At the same time, the club itself managed to almost halve the fine for this incident, and also got away with a partial closure of the stands instead of a complete one.
