Vitaly characterizes the injury received in sparring against Moldova as “just an accident”
Defender Ukrainian national team Vitaly Mykolenko commented on the situation with his injury, which he received in the first half of the away test match against Moldova.
“I was furious because I had been preparing for this match for weeks, because it was the last game before the Euros, and I got injured out of the blue. It was hard mentally, but the team supported me, and I am pleased that I have such teammates.”
“It’s just an accident. After the injury, I decided to try to go out onto the field, go for a run, and see if it hurt me or not. “Taki couldn’t walk on his feet and asked for a replacement.”
“I am very pleased that the fans supported me by making me the Lion of the match. It’s important for me. I hope that I will recover as soon as possible. I won’t say when I’ll be back, because I don’t know yet.”
Let us remind you that in the middle of the first half of the match in Chisinau, with the score 1:0 in favor of Sergei Rebrov’s team, Mikolenko unsuccessfully collided with an opponent (Arthur Krachun) and injured his right leg. Three minutes later he returned to the field, successfully played defense, but immediately after that he felt pain again and was unable to continue the game. Aleksandr Zinchenko came on instead of the Everton defender in the 30th minute.
Ukraine eventually achieved a crushing victory with a score of 4:0, and Mikolenko was recognized as the “Lion of the Match.”
This sparring was the third and last for Rebrov’s team in preparation for Euro 2024. Earlier in Nuremberg, the blue-yellows tied with Germany (0:0), and in Warsaw they lost to Poland (1:3).
Today, June 12, the Ukrainian team arrived in Wiesbaden, its base city during the continental championship. Tomorrow, June 13, Rebrov’s team will hold an open training session at the BRITA-Arena stadium.
At the group stage of the 2024 European Championship, the blue-yellows will play against the national teams of Romania (June 17), Slovakia (June 21) and Belgium (June 26). The matches will take place in Munich, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart, respectively.
