“Tank” defended his WBA lightweight belt
WBA champion, American Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KO) defended his lightweight belt in a fight with his compatriot Frank Martin (18-1, 12 KOs). “Tank” won by knockout in the eighth round.
At first the fight was on equal terms. The challenger controlled the distance and threw a lot of punches. Davis responded by putting hard pressure on his opponent and catching him on counterattacks.
From the fifth round, Gervonta clearly took the initiative. Martin began to behave passively and miss a lot. In the eighth three-minute period, the favorite managed to pin his opponent in the corner and send him to the canvas with a series of blows. Martin did not get up – another knockout victory for Davis.
This fight became the central event of the boxing event in Las Vegas. Earlier here, Ukrainian Alexander Gvozdyk lost on points to American David Benavidez in the fight for the vacant title of interim WBC light heavyweight champion.
