The organization’s goal is to secure the world champion title in the second featherweight division for one athlete.
World Boxing Organization (WBO) obliged the Mexican Emmanuel Navarrete have a rematch with a compatriot Oscar Valdez.
The fight is intended to secure the full WBO super featherweight title, which Emmanuel retained after the fight with Denis Berinchik, and to abolish the interim champion belt in the same category, which Oscar has recently held.
The parties have 20 days to agree on the conditions, date and place of the fight. Otherwise, competitive bidding will be announced, the fee rate will start from the amount of 150 thousand dollars.
In August 2023, Navarrete defeated Valdez on points to retain the WBO super featherweight title. Subsequently, in November of the same year, the Mexican boxer finished in a draw with Brazilian Robson Conceicao and retained the title.
Subsequently, Emmanuel moved up to lightweight (from 130 to 135 pounds) to fight Berinchyk for the vacant WBO champion belt in the corresponding category. As a result, the Ukrainian defeated his Mexican colleague by split decision and won the long-awaited title. Emmanuel, accordingly, missed out on the opportunity to become world champion in four different weight categories.
If Navarrete had defeated Denis and decided to retain his lightweight belt, Valdez’s WBO interim featherweight title would have automatically become full. Oscar achieved this status at the end of March, defeating Australian Liam Wilson by technical knockout.
