Atalanta agrees with Everton to transfer defender Godfrey

A versatile player who can play in any defensive position

Atalanta reached a verbal agreement with Everton about acquiring a defender Ben Godfrey.

It is reported that the transfer amount could be more than 10 million euros excluding bonuses. The terms of a personal contract have already been agreed upon with the player himself. Godfrey is scheduled to undergo a medical at his new club next weekend.

Godfrey is 26 years old. He is a versatile defender who can play on the right flank (the main position), in the center and even on the left – he has already replaced the Ukrainian Vitaliy Mykolenko in this role.

Ben became a Liverpool club player in 2020, and before that he played for York City, Norwich and Shrewsbury. Godfrey has made 16 appearances in the 2023/24 season, 13 of which have come since the New Year.

At the beginning of the month, Atalanta lost one of its key players due to injury – defender Giorgio Scalvini, who not only missed Euro 2024, but was also out until about the end of the year.

Everton finished 15th in the Premier League last season. The Toffees avoided relegation despite being docked eight points for a Financial Fair Play breach. Atalanta finished fourth in Serie A.
