Rubchinskiy: We should have won the game against Iraq, but we conceded right after our goal

The midfielder scored the first goal in the history of Ukraine at the Olympics

Midfielder Ukrainian Olympic team Valentin Rubchinskiy commented on the defeat from Iraq (1:2) in the first round Olympics 2024.

“It’s nice to score in a match like this. But there’s no great joy because we lost. In a game we should have won because we controlled the entire first half, we scored a goal. Then we conceded a slightly unpleasant goal, and the Iraqi team felt confident and started to put pressure on us. It turned out that we lost the match.”

“The first goal was more of a ‘killer’ because we conceded right after we scored – we didn’t even feel the taste of victory. And it turned out that the opposing team felt more confident, and it was already more difficult for us.”

Rubchinskiy scored the first goal in the history of Ukraine at the Olympic Games. Valentin opened the scoring in the match against Iraq with the rebound. However, a few minutes later the Iraqis got even, converting a penalty. And then the Asian team scored a second goal and snatched victory.

In the second round, Ukraine will face Morocco on July 27. Recall that the African team defeated Argentina in a scandalous match that was played out two hours after the end of regular time.
