Sampaoli’s ex-assistant Beccasese takes charge of Ecuador national team

Beccasese’s last place of work was Elche, Spain.

Argentine coach Sebastian Beccasese took charge of the national team Ecuador.

The 43-year-old specialist gained the greatest fame during his time as an assistant to Jorge Sampaoli. Beccasese assisted him in the Chilean national team from 2012 to 2016 – this period was the most successful in the history of La Roja, as it was marked by victory in two Copa America draws (2015 and 2016), and in 2014 the Chilean national team also reached the playoffs of the World Cup in Brazil.

Between 2017 and 2018, Beccasese assisted Jorge Sampaoli during his time with the Argentina national team. The Albiceleste failed the 2018 World Cup (losing in the 1/8 finals), after which the entire coaching staff resigned.

Beccasese’s last job was at Spanish club Elche, which he led from 2023 to 2024.

Sebastian Beccasese will replace Spaniard Felix Sanchez Bas at the helm of the Ecuadorian national team, who left the national team after being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Copa America by Argentina (1:1 in regular time, 2:4 in a penalty shootout).

Beccasese will make his debut match as head coach of Ecuador on September 4, when La Tri will face Brazil away in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
