Ponomarev: I can’t say that Rukh beat Obolon by as many as four goals. We used our chances, but our opponent didn’t

The coach of the Lviv team, despite the big victory, complains about personnel problems and believes that the team is not yet fully formed to solve serious problems

Head coach Rukha Vitaly Ponomarev commented on his team’s crushing away victory over Obolon in the second round Ukrainian Premier League.

“As expected, it was a difficult game for us and the score, perhaps, does not quite correspond to what was on the field. There was not much spectacular football today, but the struggle of both teams prevailed. I cannot say that Rukh beat Obolon by as many as four goals. It is always difficult to play against this team in Kyiv.”

“Obolon dictated their terms on the field in the first half. They pressed well in defense, and when they had the ball, they used long passes to build attacks. Not all of our players followed the instructions for this match at the beginning of the game, so there was a certain nervousness in the team’s actions. We used our chances, but the opponent did not. We talked about this during the break and managed to change the game a little – more often coming out of defense through Prytula and Fedor, and controlled the ball better.”

“Igor Krasnopir had a tough time today, but it’s important that he scored a goal in his first official match. This will give him confidence in the next games. We were missing such a striker, and his goal was very important for the team at that moment. I think Igor will continue to progress and show even better play, because he has good prospects and potential for growth.”

“Unfortunately, we have a lot of injured players now. These are injuries that the players received in game fights during training – the guys did not have a single muscle injury during the training camp. It’s a shame that these players cannot help us now, but this is football, so such moments are the norm. We have enough quality players who can replace injured players. The club must have a good bench to replace unavailable players without losing quality, so that there are no irreplaceable players.”

“Our task now is to win every match. We have not yet fully formed a team that is ready to solve serious problems.”

Let us recall that Rukh thrashed Obolon 4-0 away. The Lviv team scored two of the four goals at the very end. One of the goals was scored by former Pivovary forward Igor Krasnopir.

For Ponomarev’s team, this match was the debut of the season, since Rukh missed the first round due to the call-up of its players to the Ukrainian Olympic team. In the third round of the UPL, Rukh will play away against LNZ on August 18.
