Today’s editorial, which inevitably begins with a question about Taranto. Last week we expressed solidarity with a group of fans who were hoping to return to the ranks of the greats of the third series and who today comment on events that have nothing to do with sport. Let’s face it: the penalty taken last season, which was decisive in terms of missing out on promotion, caused anxiety and foreshadowed a future that was far from rosy for the Apulian team. Today the picture is dramatic: the dismissal of coach Ezio Capuano. A fairy tale without a happy ending, an almost predictable epilogue after recent events. On the web we read all sorts of comments: there are those who thank the coach for pushing Taranto a step away from Serie B after decades, those who invite him to retrace his steps by agreeing to lead the existing group, those who even accuse him of “betrayal” and of abandoning the ship in a difficult situation. However, we are inclined to be categorical on this issue: to say that Capuano has turned his back on Taranto is football blasphemy. We are talking about a professional who, for a year and a half, has been frying fish with mineral water, convincing top footballers to accept the offer of Rossoblu, thanks to his authority and with a minimal budget. And this time, an interesting team has been formed, ready to fight with everyone and repeat the feat of the playoffs. It was impossible, and despite the certificates and health problems that we hope can be solved in the shortest possible time, the sacred right of a good technician is to aim for an important challenge and not to start with a thousand unknowns, a short list and the real risk of fighting to the end to avoid direct relegation.
