Kyivans have positive statistics in matches with Austrian representatives
August 27 Dynamo will play return match of the playoff round Champions League qualification with Salzburg. The first match of the confrontation Salzburg – Dynamowhich took place a week ago in Lublin, ended with a victory for the Austrian club (2:0). Now the Kyivians will have to jump above their heads to get through to the Champions League group stage. At the same time, Dynamo has positive statistics in meetings with Austrian teams.
Salzburg became the fifth representative of Austria with whom Dynamo played official matches. And only the second who managed to beat the Kiev team. Before the match on August 21, only Rapid had managed to do so, winning three out of eight matches against Dynamo with four defeats and one draw.
Dynamo won two matches against Wacker Innsbruck and Sturm (the latter two years ago), while Austria in four matches with Dynamo achieved only one draw and three defeats. Salzburg, let us recall, has two wins and three defeats in five matches with Ukrainian clubs. On the other hand, Dynamo have won 11 times in their history in away matches of the European Cup playoffs with a difference of two goals or more.
Several years ago, the then Dynamo coach Mircea Lucescu explained the team’s poor results in European competitions by the young age of his players. However, Salzburg is now significantly younger than the Kiev team. In the game in Lublin, the average age of Salzburg was 22 years and 360 days, Dynamo – 26 years and 315 days. At the same time, 17-year-old Oliver Lukic came on as a substitute for the Austrian club.
At the same time, in terms of the youth of the UPL squad, Dynamo is second only to four clubs – Rukh, Shakhtar, Zorya and Chornomorets, on par with Karpaty. Salzburg is the youngest team in the Austrian championship. At the same time, the Austrian Bundesliga as a whole is only eight months younger than the Ukrainian Premier League – 24.5 years against 25.3.
The Salzburg-Dynamo match is expected to be a sell-out: four hours before the start of the match, a couple of hundred tickets were still on sale for the almost 32,000-seat arena.
The Salzburg – Dynamo match will begin at 22:00 Kyiv time. The match will be officiated by a team of referees from Turkey headed by Umut Mehler.
