Buffon receives UEFA President’s Special Award

Legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon received the President’s Award UEFA Alexandra Ceferina during the draw for the group stage Champions League 2024/25.

The UEFA President’s Award is presented for outstanding achievements, high professionalism and exceptional personal qualities.

In 2023, a similar award was given to former German national team striker Miroslav Klose.

Let us recall that Gigi ended his playing career only last summer at the age of 45. Buffon’s last club was Parma, where he is a product of.

Buffon’s career includes almost 1,000 matches at club level alone. With the national team, Buffon won the 2006 World Cup, silver at the 2012 European Championship and bronze at the 2013 Confederations Cup. As part of the Squadra Azzurra from 1997 to 2018, he played a record 176 matches.

In July, Buffon was appointed sporting director of the Italian national and youth teams.
