Defender Albanian national team Ardian Ismaili spoke about the victory over Ukraine (2:1) in the first round Nations League 2024/25.
“We believed we had a chance to win. It’s the same group as the Euro. We dominated with Ukraine. We had a chance to score 3-4 goals. We fully deserved it.”
“In the last 15 minutes we had to defend the result, it’s normal for the team, and we managed to get 3 points. I was close to the second goal, but the actions in defense were more important. When we scored 2:1, Ukraine attacked us a lot, and I worked hard,” the defender said.
The Ukrainian team took the lead early in the second half after a goal by Yefim Konoplya. Ismaili equalized five minutes later, taking advantage of a rebound from a set piece. Then the Albanians scored their second goal after a counterattack.
With three points, Albania leads Group B1 with Georgia, while the Ukrainian team is third thanks to a better goal difference than the Czech Republic.
In the next round, Rebrov’s team will play the Czech Republic on September 10. Albania will host Georgia on the same day.
