36-year-old Jose Paulo Bezerra Maciel Junior, better known as simply Paulinhoannounced his retirement from football.
Paulinho is a man with an original football path. He started out in the little-known Audax, and at the beginning of his career he played for Polish Lodz and Lithuanian Vilnius. At 22, the midfielder was noticed by Corinthians, from where he began to be called up to the national team and with whom he won the Copa Libertadores, and in 2013 he became a Tottenham player.
From the capital of England, the footballer in his prime migrated to Chinese Guangzhou. For six years, Paulinho alternated between playing for the Chinese giants and Barcelona (golden double in 2018). He briefly turned to Al-Ahli, after which he returned to his homeland, to Corinthians, where he spent the last two and a half years of his colorful career.
Paulinho played 56 matches for the Brazilian national team, scoring 13 goals and providing nine assists. He was a key player at two World Cups: 2014 (semi-final) and 2018 (quarter-final). He has not been called up to the national team since the fall of 2018.
