Vernidub: Neither Krivbass nor Vorskla played enough to win

The coach of the Kryvyi Rih team noted that his team lacked sharpness in front of the opponent’s goal

Head coach Krivbassa Yuri Vernidub believes that his team did not play hard enough to win the match against Vorskla (1:1) in the seventh round Ukrainian Premier League.

“As for the match, both we and Poltava did not play hard enough to win today. There were very few scoring chances. But we scored a goal each. We conceded, then equalized. It’s good that we managed to do this before the break. In the second half, the game was in the center of the field without chances. One of the few games of Kryvbas, when we created very few opportunities to score. But that’s football, it happens. We will analyze, draw conclusions and prepare for Alexandria.”

“The game went well in the first half: we created chances, scored a goal, but, admittedly, from an offside position. The game was not bad. Vorskla had no chances. We knew that they were a good, fighting opponent who defended well. We understood that it would be difficult for them to score. Today, we lacked sharpness at the opponent’s goal. There were a lot of back passes, cross passes. Perhaps the guys were afraid of making a mistake, which is why they acted like that. We will analyze the team’s actions and explain to the players that they need to create more opportunities. After all, if you do not create more opportunities, there will be no chances.”

“I have already said that this year will be much harder. It is much easier to win bronze than to defend it. Besides, I want not only to defend it, but also to progress further. There are some mistakes on my part too: in terms of selection, we do not look as good as we would like. We need to correct it, we are working in this direction.”

“But every year it is becoming more and more difficult to invite qualified football players to Ukraine. But I don’t see anything terrible about it. There are young people from U-19. They work with us, they are included in the application for UPL games. I really want them to grow as professional football players.”

“It’s too early to analyze Alexandria. Tomorrow we’ll first analyze the game against Vorskla, and then from Tuesday we’ll study the football that the Alexandrians are demonstrating. We’re preparing for each game as much as possible. I think everything will be fine.”

Kryvbas and Vorskla exchanged goals at the end of the first half. After the break, the teams created few chances and were unable to score any more.

Vernidub’s team has 11 points and is in fifth place in the UPL. In the next round, Kryvbas will host Oleksandriya on September 28.
