Obolon still doesn’t know the taste of victory in the 2024/25 UPL draw
Head coach Obolon Sergey Shishchenko commented on the crushing defeat from Shakhtar (0:4) in the 7th round UPL.
“We tried to be disciplined in the match and I think that the first half was a success in terms of our defensive play. Of course, there were mistakes, but we played very compactly and did not allow Shakhtar to realize its strengths. In the second half, Shakhtar began to play more aggressively, and, unfortunately, we made mistakes that led to goals conceded.”
“Did they set me a specific task when I took over at Obolon? I don’t know what tasks the team had before my appointment, but now we understand that our main goal is to stay in the Premier League and demonstrate quality play and results to achieve this.”
“Have I noticed any progress in the team’s play compared to the previous match against Alexandria? In defense, yes, because we were very disciplined and compact. However, I really want us to be more aggressive in attack and make decisions faster when creating scoring chances. There is work to do, and we are fruitfully improving different aspects of the game at each training session. I promise that we will be better than we are now, but this takes time. At the same time, it is not enough, considering that matches are held weekly.”
After seven rounds played, Obolon has only two points to its credit – the Brewers are at the bottom of the UPL standings.
In addition, Obolon has a depressing seven-match goalless streak. The last time the Kievans scored was on August 4, in a home match with Kolos (2:2).
Sergey Shishchenko’s team will play their next match on September 29 at home against Ingulets.
