Defender “Zenith” Vyacheslav Karavaev apologized to the fans of the St. Petersburg club after the match of the 10th round of the MIR Russian Premier League (RPL) with “Krasnodar” .
The meeting took place on Saturday in Krasnodar and ended with a score of 2:0 in favor of the hosts. The goals were scored by John Cordoba (88th minute) and Fedor Smolov (90+4). In the episode with the first goal, Karavaev headed the ball to Cordoba, who then beat the goalkeeper of the St. Petersburg team, Evgeniy Latyshonok, and scored the goal.
— I would like to apologize to our fans, to the team, to St. Petersburg, because my mistake affected the outcome of the match. I made a mistake and I would like to take responsibility for this defeat myself.
Unfortunately, it happens – it’s football. But I really feel sorry for the guys who tried and worked all week, and because of one mistake, all those efforts turned out to be in vain. I admit that we need to play more reliably in defense – today we failed.
We still have a lot of matches to play and I will work as hard as possible to make sure everything goes well. I promise that I will do everything I can for the victories of our beloved team,” Karavaev was quoted as saying by the club’s press service.
Zenit is in third place in the standings with 23 points; the bleus-blancs-bleus suffered their first defeat of the RPL season. In the next round, the Semak team will host Orenburg on October 5.
