Vice President “Rostov » Rustem Saimanov told that he does not believe the popularity of football in Russia is declining.
On Monday, the VTsIOM (All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion) reported that, according to the latest survey, the share of Russians indifferent to football has increased over the past 19 years, from 43 to 77%. According to the results of the survey, the share of regular supporters has almost quintupled since 2005 (from 19 to 4% in 2024). Additionally, from 47% in 2009 to 17% in 2024, the proportion of Russians able to name an active Russian footballer they were interested in decreased.
– It can’t be like that. In Rostov-on-Don, for example, interest in football is great.
— Is the survey data incorrect?
“100%,” Saimanov told the correspondent.
Since 2022, Russian clubs and national teams have been suspended from participation in tournaments under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA due to the situation in Ukraine.
