21-year-old Eintracht forward Igor Matanovic scored his debut goal for Croatia
Croatian national team won a strong-willed victory at home over Scotland (2:1) in the third round Nations League 2024/25.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 33rd minute – Scots midfielder Ryan Christie scored. Zlatko Dalic’s team restored the status quo almost immediately – Igor Matanovic scored from Ivan Perisic’s pass. By the way, for the 21-year-old Eintracht forward this is his debut goal in the Croatian national team. Matanovic was born and raised in Germany, but at the national team level he decided to represent his parents’ homeland.
After the break, Croatia began to increase even more pressure on the Scottish goal, which resulted in Andrej Kramaric’s goal in the 70th minute of the match. Che Adams equalized in the sixth minute of injury time into the second half, but the Scottish striker’s goal was disallowed after a VAR review.
As a result, Dalic’s team won their second victory in the 2024/25 Nations League. With six points they are level with leading Portugal, which will play its third round match today against Poland. Scotland is the obvious outsider of the quartet – Steve Clarke’s team does not have a single point scored.
Croatia will play their next match on October 15 away against Poland, while Scotland will host Portugal at home on the same day.
