The ex-Croatian national team forward played for both clubs in his career
Ex-forward Shakhtar And Arsenal Eduardo told who he will support in the upcoming match between his two former clubs as part of Champions League.
“I believe that the Champions League is a tournament of incredible level and format, and, of course, an extremely entertaining match awaits us. Of course, it will be somewhat difficult for Shakhtar, given that the team does not have a home arena and is forced to play matches away from home. Despite the fact that Shakhtar will be opposed by Arsenal, which is considered one of the strongest in the world and, in fact, is such, I am sure that we will see a confrontation between strong teams. The most important thing is that we have an interesting game ahead of us.”
“Shakhtar has significant and convincing experience of performing on the European stage. In my opinion, he is strong primarily in team play, which is complemented by the individual qualities of each player. The squad includes many high-quality young and promising Brazilian performers, as well as good representatives of the Ukrainian football school. I believe that Shakhtar has every chance to demonstrate its football and make a statement, given the positive result.”
“Who will I root for? This is indeed a very difficult question, I will have to torture myself a little to give the correct answer. However, given that I am communicating with you and remembering the wonderful years I spent in Ukraine, I will choose Shakhtar with great hesitation. Both clubs are very close and important to me, they have a special place in my heart, however, given the situation in Ukraine and given that my son was born there, although he does not have Ukrainian citizenship, but has a birth certificate in Ukraine, tomorrow I will be sick for Shakhtar. Ukraine is not alien to me, and all these factors influence my decision.”
Eduardo played for Arsenal between 2007 and 2010, after which he played for Shakhtar (from 2010 to 2014 and from 2015 to 2016). Together with Shakhtar, the forward won the Ukrainian championship four times, and also won the country’s Cup and Super Cup once each.
Eduardo played 64 matches for the Croatian national team and scored 29 goals.
Shakhtar scored one point in two rounds of the Champions League and is in 27th place in the overall tournament table. The Gunners have four points to their credit.
The match of the third round of the 2024/25 Champions League between Arsenal and Shakhtar will take place in London today, October 22. Starts at 22:00 Kyiv time. The match will be officiated by a French team of judges led by Benoit Bastien.
