“There are no miracles.” Lapochkin believes that judge Bezborodov will end his career due to disqualification

Former FIFA referee Sergei Lapochkin suggested on MATCH PRIME that the referee Vladislav Bezborodov will end his career after the Russian Football Federation (RFU) decided to suspend him from his job.

On Saturday, the disciplinary commission of the RFU refereeing committee suspended Bezborodov from work at MIR matches of the Russian Premier League (RPL) and other competitions under the auspices of the RFU until the end of the 2024/25 season. The arbitrator was dismissed for violating moral and ethical standards or rules of business conduct, as well as knowingly providing false information or concealing it. Previously, the Telegram channel “Hello, ref! published screenshots of comments allegedly belonging to Bezborodov, where the decisions of other judges were discussed, and Vladislav called himself the one who “is the only one who knows how to judge.”

“It is astonishing that someone with such a long career has been suspended for certain comments, some of which were made three years ago. There’s probably something we don’t know. Although it is said that he was suspended for two counts, the second one hid certain facts. It’s very interesting. What facts did he hide and why such a severe punishment? We don’t know everything for sure.

If we’re talking about comments, don’t you think that’s some kind of reason? Well, it turns out he said something. Yes, they adopted some kind of moral and ethical code not so long ago. This needs to be thought about, because, for example, this morning there was an old code on the RFU website, then this afternoon a new one appeared. Judges probably shouldn’t communicate, but what’s the problem? Well, yes, he wrote something, but what’s the problem? The rules must be respected, but I would like someone from the RFU Referee Disciplinary Committee to explain why they made this decision.

— Given Bezborodov’s age, does this disqualification mean the end of his career? Or will he come back?

“Taking all the factors into account, and knowing that he was disqualified not just for comments. Additionally, two articles resulted in an almost maximum sentence… Miracles don’t happen. I think so. It’s the end of a career,” Lapochkin said on MATCH FIRST.

Bezborodov is 51 years old and one of the most famous active Russian referees. Bezborodov officiated matches in the Champions League, Europa League and Nations League, as well as qualifying matches for the World and European Championships. He was recognized as the best referee in Russia in the 2021/22 season and the 2022/23 season, the result was formed based on the assessments of the match inspectors and taking into account the decisions of the refereeing commission of experts to the President of the RFU.
