Bruno Lage’s team played a shock second half, leaving the guests no chance to take at least some points from the Estádio da Luz
On Estádio da Luz the central match of the 11th round took place Portuguese Championship — Benfica won a crushing victory over Porto (4:1).
The hosts opened the scoring in the 30th minute – 21-year-old lateral Alvaro Carreras, who also scored in the match before last between Benfica and Farense (2:1), scored again. Shortly before the break, the score was equalized by Porto’s Spanish forward Samu Omorodion, for whom this was his 12th goal in 13 matches for the club.
The second half of the meeting took place under the absolute dictation of Benfica. Angel Di Maria scored a double – the Argentine first scored from the field, and then converted a penalty. Between the two goals scored by Di Maria, another goal came as a result of an own goal by Porto defender Neuen Perez.
Benfica’s Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoly Trubin was in the starting lineup and played the entire 90 minutes on the field. For him, this match was his 15th of the season for the club.
As a result, Benfica won their sixth consecutive victory in the Portuguese championship. Bruno Lage’s team is still third in the standings, but the gap from second-placed Porto has been reduced to two points (at the same time, Benfica has a match in hand). Sporting is in the lead with a 100% result, having won all 11 championship matches with 33 points.
Benfica will play their next match on November 23 at home against Estrela, and Porto will face Moreirense away a day later.
