Sosnovsky: The contract ends on December 31, and I will no longer be the head coach of the Ukrainian boxing team

The mentor believes that he has successfully completed his job

Head coach Ukrainian national boxing team Dmitry Sosnovsky said that he would leave his post at the end of the year.

“My contract expires on December 31 this year. I will no longer be the head coach of the national team and, accordingly, I will not work with the team. I think it’s time. There are many young and promising as well as experienced trainers. And I did my part.”

“I had an agreement with the leadership of the federation when Kirill Shevchenko was its chairman: I work for another year, and when the agreement expires, then I’m done. Of course there were goals. It was the boxers who were supposed to bring the country a gold medal. I coped with the task.”

“Working as the head coach of a national team requires a lot of strength, health, and there must be a lot of desire. This is very serious work. And I’m already an older man, it’s difficult for me to travel, fly, and work. Our boxing is at a good level. I spoke about achievements.”

“We have a lot of promising boxers. But first we need to hold the Ukrainian championship. It was planned for December, but then postponed to spring. At the tournament, a group of candidates for the national team should be selected, with whom work will be carried out in preparation for the Olympics in the USA.”

“Now the team will go to the Asian Championship, and the list of candidates will be outlined after the Ukrainian Championship. These are all the boxers with whom I worked – Aider Abduraimov, Dmitry Lovchinsky, other boxers. In October we have five European champions and a silver medalist in the under-23 championship. These are Daniil Zamorilo, Daniil Lozan, Yuri Zahariev, Jamal Kuliev, Ashot Kacharyan, Vasily Tkachuk. Plus Ivan Zavadsky, Daniil Zhosan. Many candidates. But I repeat, it will be possible to speak specifically only after the Ukrainian Championship.”

66-year-old Sosnovsky began working as a coach in 1979. The mentor has led the Ukrainian national team since 2007 with interruptions. Sosnovsky worked with future world champions in professional boxing: Vasily Lomachenko, Alexander Usik and Alexander Gvozdyk. In 2011, the International Amateur Boxing Association named the Ukrainian coach the best trainer of the year in the world.
