Pyatenko: My players have their own trump cards, and we are going to play only to win

The national teams of Ukraine and Belgium will play each other on November 29 and December 3

Head coach Ukrainian women’s national football team Vladimir Pyatenko commented on the upcoming matches of the decisive round of the qualifying playoffs European Championship 2025in which the blue-yellows will confront Belgium.

“We have been carrying out the final stage of preparation in Antalya since November 20, but only on Monday evening we gathered in full force – the legionnaires arrived. Unfortunately, in the last round of the Turkish championship, Yana Derkach, who plays for Fomget, was injured and Lesya Olkhova from Metalist 1925 had to be urgently called in as a replacement.”

“Almost all the teams perform abroad. In their own possessions, the team operates with a defensive midfielder, and in the opposing half of the field they use a 4-3-3 attacking formation. The Belgians play quite tightly in the transition phase; they also have vertical passes. But although they occupy the highest place in the table of ranks, my players have their own trump cards, and we are going to play only to win.”

“In playoff matches there is no time to build up, you need maximum adjustment, you need to take into account every little thing. Because the mistakes that will be made in the first fight may not wait to be corrected. I am convinced that the girls are well aware of this, so they are in a fighting mood.”

The national teams of Ukraine and Belgium will play each other on November 29 and December 3. The first match will take place in Antalya, Turkey (start at 19:00 Kyiv time), the return match will take place in Leuven, Belgium (21:15).

This selection round is the last and decisive one. In it, seven duets will determine the seven participants in the final stage of the tournament, designed for 16 teams.

We would like to remind you that at the previous qualifying stage, Vladimir Pyatenko’s team confidently defeated their opponents from Turkey (1:1, 2:0). Belgium beat Greece on aggregate (0:0, 5:0).

The draw for the final part of the European Championship will take place on December 16. The tournament itself will take place next summer in Switzerland.
