Inter Miami officially announced the appointment Javier Mascherano for the post of head coach.
The contract with the 40-year-old Argentine specialist was signed until the end of the 2027 season.
During his playing career, Mascherano played for River Plate, Corinthians, West Ham, Liverpool, Barcelona and Hebei China Fortune. Together with the Catalan club, he won the Champions League twice.
As a member of the Argentina national team, Mascherano won the Olympic Games twice and became a silver medalist at the 2014 World Championships.
Upon completion of his career, Javier began working in the structure of the Argentine national teams in the department of methodology and development. In 2022, he led the Argentina U-20 national team, with which he made it to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris
Let us remind you that the previous head coach of Inter Miami, Gerardo Martino, decided to leave his position. It is reported that this decision of the 61-year-old specialist is due to personal reasons.
Martino has worked with Inter Miami since 2023. Under his leadership, the team won the regular season of the Western Conference this season, but was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Atlanta United.
