Byron Castillo played for the Ecuadorian National Team in the last qualifiers and had an audio published by the “Daily Mail” in which he claimed to be Colombian; see details
The English newspaper, “Daily Mail” published an audio in which the side Byron Castillo confirms the fact that he is Colombian and that he is three years older than he claims in his passport. The case is being investigated by FIFA and could disqualify Ecuador from the World Cup, and benefit Chile, since the player was selected in both clashes between the countries.
After the Chilean defeat in the first instance, they appealed and on the 15th there will be a trial with the player’s presence. He was selected in eight qualifiers for this year’s World Cup and although Chile finished 7th, he would be the only beneficiary of a possible conviction and Ecuadorian disqualification from the championship.
According to the British newspaper, the audio in question refers to an interview during an investigation carried out by the Ecuadorian Football Federation in 2018, which would have been covered up by the federation itself. From the base categories, the athlete is suspicious and has already stopped being summoned to the U-20 World Cup, in 2017, due to inconsistency in his documents.
The lawyer representing Chile commented on the audio: “The recording validates everything we’ve said since the beginning of this case. Clearly, this now needs to be presented as evidence to the FIFA Appeals Committee ahead of Thursday’s hearing.“, said the Brazilian Eduardo Carlezzothe prosecution’s representative in the case.
Despite Castillo saying in the audio that he would have only one sister, one of the justifications presented by Ecuador would be that the documents of Colombian birth would be from a brother of the player. The local Federation and FIFA did not want to comment on the English news, but the Ecuadorian entity’s lawyer said that there was no possibility of punishment for not having irregularities related to the side.
Así las cosas con esta new news from Byron Castillo, in the belief that he left for Ecuador, to see what happened!
