After retiring from Singapore, Esteban Okon hopes to score points from Suzuka to help the team fight for fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship…
Q: Esteban, how do you rate the results of the Singapore stage?
Esteban Ocon: The results of the weekend in Singapore do not reflect the potential of our car. We are disappointed with two retirements due to engine issues, but I know the team is working hard to resolve these issues. Unfortunately this sometimes happens in races, we have a chance to come back this week.
Q: What do you think about returning to Japan?
Esteban Ocon: I’m happy to be back in Japan, where many of us haven’t been since 2019. Personally, I haven’t raced there since 2018, which was a long time ago. Suzuka is one of the most interesting circuits in the world, it is my favorite track on the Formula 1 calendar. It has a fantastic atmosphere, passionate fans who are well versed in our sport. I hope they are as happy with our return as we are with returning to this beautiful country and to the historic circuit.
Q: What makes Suzuka special?
Esteban Ocon: This is a legendary song. The only figure eight configuration on the Formula 1 calendar, which I find very interesting. I really like the fast first sector with fast corners. There are not many departure zones here, you have to control accurately and accurately.
I like old school tracks that are challenging and demanding for cars and drivers. And of course the Japanese fans are some of the most passionate fans you can find. They even give us gifts, some very original! I hope we can put on a good show for them this weekend.
