The teams worked out the first training session in Austin according to the usual program and the second according to the Pirelli program, testing prototype tires for 2023. The new tires on the cars of twenty riders from ten teams covered 2823 kilometers – almost ten Grand Prix distances, which allowed Pirelli to collect a large amount of information.
Simone BerraPirelli Chief Engineer: “We were able to complete the first part of the 2023 tire testing program in Austin, we planned to do it in Japan, but the tests were canceled there due to the rain. The work done in the second training session allows us to analyze a large amount of data on the work of the harder setups, and next week during the second training session in Mexico City we will work on the softer ones.
Especially the third practice will be important this weekend, allowing the teams to decide on the strategy of the race. The windy conditions and uneven surfaces have once again confirmed that the Circuit of the Americas remains one of the most exciting circuits for racers and engineers.”
