With both championships won, Max Verstappen set his sights on a record single-season win at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
It wasn’t exactly easy, but Max Verstappen was back on the top step of the podium in Austin last weekend. The victory not only secured the Red Bull team the Constructors’ Championship on the emotional weekend, but also tied Verstappen with Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel in the most wins in a single season.
Verstappen quickly took the lead, passing Carlos Sainz at the first corner. Since then he has held the lead thanks to a pair of safety cars. However, during the green flag pit stops, everything changed. Max had a very slow save that not only cost him the lead, but also allowed Charles Leclerc to edge him for second place.
Max then showed why he is world champion. For the last 20 laps he struggled with Leclerc, then slipped confidently up to Lewis Hamilton in the fight for the lead. With six laps to go, Verstappen passed Hamilton at Turn 12 and pulled away from him for the win. It was one of the rare opportunities for the Hamilotn driver to win this season, but Festappen shattered his dreams of victory.
Red Bull’s winning streak has increased to eight. The last race they lost was in July at the Austrian Grand Prix. This season, they keep improving and remaining stable, while their competitors are losing ground in terms of performance. With just three races remaining this season, you can be sure Red Bull will be looking to take first place in every race and maintain the historic momentum through to 2023.
